When Newcastle United face Brentford this afternoon, they shouldn’t have to look too far for a scouting report on the Bees’ biggest goalscoring threat.

Igor Thiago has made an incredible start to the season, scoring seven goals in 11 games in all competitions, and he has filled the goalscoring void left by the departures of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa at the Gtech Community Stadium this summer.

The 24-year-old is making up for lost time following his £30million move from Club Brugge in the summer of 2024. The Brazilian missed a huge chunk of last season after picking up a serious knee injury.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

Originally signed as Ivan Toney’s goalscoring replacement, Brentford are now finally reaping those rewards and if Newcastle are to come away from West London with a vital three points they will need to keep him quiet in front of goal.

Such has been his fine start to the season, Chronicle Live revealed last month that Newcastle scouts were well aware of Thiago’s situation.

While a new forward isn’t a major transfer priority following the arrivals of Nick Woltemade and Wissa – ironically from Brentford – in the summer, the Magpies are keeping tabs on his development.

However, speaking about his future, Brentford manager Keith Andrews issued a hands off warning to any potential suitors.

“I’ve said over the past few weeks, I was really happy when the last transfer window closed,” Andrews said last month.

“We’re not even in November, so I’m not going to talk about a transfer window that is two months away, that will inevitably come closer to the time.

“Thiago is going absolutely nowhere, absolutely nowhere, he’s a pivotal part of this football club, he doesn’t want to go anywhere, that won’t be happening.”

Clearly Brentford are already putting out the message that they aren’t interested in selling the former Ludogorets forward but a lot can change between now and next summer.

When the two sides face each other on Sunday afternoon, it presents Thiago the perfect audition in front of Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe to prove his talents.

Howe will hope he doesn’t impress too much, though, as Newcastle go in search of a precious first away victory in the Premier League this season.
