Oscar Piastri leads from Lando Norris but 10 seconds.

That gap is coming down at a rate of knots, with the Briton on fresh tyres.

Piastri will serve a 10-second penalty when he comes in for his pit stop.

Piastri is still in this race and a chance of winning, but he needs some luck from here.

Max Verstappen has pitted again.

It is a good stop, and the Dutchman is on medium tyres again.

He should be able to get to the end of the race on this set of tyres.

33/71: Norris passes Verstappen

Max Verstappen did not put up much of a fight.

Both Norris and Verstappen will need to pit again.

Verstappen will pit first and will almost certainly then be ahead of Norris. Then Norris will have fresher tyres to end the race.

Norris and Verstappen ARE racing each other today.

32/71: Oscar Piastri inherits the lead of the grand prix

Oscar Piastri is the leader of the race.

You would assume the Australian is trying to make a one-stop strategy work.

Meanwhile, his rivals are on a two-stop strategy.

30/71: Lando Norris pits

Lando Norris has come into the pits.

It is a very nice stop from the McLaren team.

Norris was stationary for 2.2 seconds.

Norris is on the soft tyre. This suggests it is a two-stop for Piastri.

Norris comes out and he comes out behind Max Verstappen.

Verstappen is on 23-lap-old mediums, so Norris should be able to make the overtake sooner rather than later.

29/71: Norris driving well, Piastri potentially nursing his tyres

At this stage of the race, Lando Norris is clearly faster than Oscar Piastri.

Piastri could be managing his tyres. He almost certainly can only pit once today, with a 10-second penalty to serve.

Norris’s lead is around 6.4 seconds.

25/71: Norris extends his lead as Verstappen continues his charge

Lando Norris is driving well.

The championship leader is leading his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 5 seconds.

Piastri has a 10-second penalty.

Mercedes have pitted Kimi Antonelli, so George Russell is now third.

Max Verstappen is fourth and is the fastest driver on the track.

Vertsappen has already made one pit stop. He will need to make another.

If this is a two-stop race, then Verstappen is in very good shape.

‘We can still make this work’: Piastri given encouragement

Oscar Piastri has been given encouragement over the radio.

He has been told that if he keeps up his current lap times, then “Plan C” is an option for him.

“We can still make this work,” Piastri is told.

What is Plan C? I suppose we will find out in about an hour.

21/71: Max Verstappen is flying in Brazil

Max Verstappen is on the charge.

On lap 12, he was running 16th.

The Dutchman is now up to fifth in a terrific display of driving.

He is enjoying himself much more than yesterday.

Verstappen is about 20 seconds off leader Lando Norris, but the Dutchman has made a pit stop.

19/71: Piastri losing ground to Norris

Oscar Piastri is currently running second.

He is 3.8 seconds behind race leader Lando Norris.

Piastri is 2.3 seconds ahead of Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli.

Piastri has a 10-second penalty. As it stands, that would drop him to fifth, behind Mercedes driver George Russell.

10 SECOND PENALTY — OSCAR PIASTRI

Oscar Piastri has been handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.

The Australian clipped the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli.

That shunt sent Antonelli into Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, which ended Leclerc’s race.

Oscar Piastri is about 2 seconds behind Lando Norris.

I can imagine that both drivers are nursing their tyres at this moment.

Kimi Antonelli is 1.6 seconds behind Piastri.

Stewards have noted Piastri for causing a collision

The only grounds that could be a penalty is because Oscar locked up and technically lost control of his car before the contact.

After initially being under threat, Lando Norris was able to extend his lead over Oscar Piastri to beyond one second.

Max Verstappen, meanwhile, has pitted. He picked up a puncture.

The Dutchman had been making good progress from the pit lane. He was up to 13th before needing to pit.

Charles Leclerc was an innocent bystander.

Did Piastri make a legal move?

He locked a tyre, but Antonelli also left him little room.

“He left me no space,” says Piastri over his radio.
