Gary Neville takes aim at Liverpool’s players live on Sky as damning Man City verdict delivered

Gary Neville was speaking on Sky Sports during Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon

Gary Neville claimed Liverpool looked like a team who were beaten during the first-half of their Premier League clash against Manchester City. The Reds arrived at the Etihad looking to close the gap on leaders Arsenal.

However, after Giorgi Mamardashvili saved a penalty from Erling Haaland, City opened the scoring when the forward headed home Matheus Nunes’ cross. But there was controversy when Virgil van Dijk saw an equaliser ruled out for offside.

The Dutchman headed home a corner, but Andy Robertson was adjudged to be interfering with play. And City then made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage-time when Nico Gonzalez saw his effort deflect in off Van Dijk.

And before City’s second, Neville claimed: “Bradley is having a really tough battle. Liverpool look leggy. Physically, they look well off it. Sluggish.”

And after the goal, he said: “Sometimes you can tell a team is there to be beaten. Liverpool’s legs are gone. They cannot get out. It is so, so poor. Van Dijk just lets it hit him.

“Really strange. Liverpool have lost every battle. It is really worrying.”

Speaking before the game, Reds boss Arne Slot said: “It is always a lot of thought if you play a game in the Premier League.

“If you play Man City, probably even more because they can come up with so many different things. I can go through the whole list of what Pep has done in his 1000 games as a manager.

“It is always a lot of thought. I have said many times, preferably you don’t change that much as a manager if there has been four days of rest. Some players are getting fitter and fitter, so more of a chance to keep the same players.”
