Why the Bears will or won’t beat the Giants in Week 10

The Chicago Bears are 5-3 after a thrilling win over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday. They snatched victory from the hands of defeat, but the consensus was that it should never have gotten to that point, as the Bears had a multi-score lead in the second half of the fourth quarter.

Now, the Bears have a matchup with the lowly New York Giants, who come into the game at 2-7. It has been a rough season for them, but they feel like their future is improving with some new additions. This is not going to be an easy victory for the Bears. If you throw away the records, New York is probably a tougher team to beat than Cincinnati, and we saw how that can go if teams don’t take them seriously. It’s hard to win in the NFL, no matter the opponent.

This is the type of game, for an up-and-down team like Chicago, that could go either way. No outcome would be surprising. Here’s why the Bears will and won’t beat the Giants.

Why the Bears will win

The Bears will beat the Giants because they are a better team. There is a reason each team has the record that they have, and Chicago will take advantage. The Bears also have Ben Johnson, who will give them the coaching advantage. Caleb Williams also has the quarterback advantage over rookie Jaxson Dart, who took over for Russell Wilson a few weeks ago. Without Malik Nabers, it will be hard for New York to move the football against a Bears defense looking to have a bounce-back game. Although they crumbled last week, Chicago’s defense is very good at taking the ball away, which will play to their advantage.

Why the Bears won’t win

The Bears are not a lock to win any game just because of their opponent’s standing. If anything, the Giants and their 2-7 record are more of a threat against this unstable Bears team. Yes, Chicago won four in a row after starting 0-2. All but one of those wins, however, required late-game miracles. Then, the Baltimore Ravens blew them out without Lamar Jackson before that miracle win against the Bengals. Nothing is certain with this Bears team. This Bears-Giants match is the definition of a trap for Chicago. The Giants have nothing to lose, while the Bears could tank their whole season with a loss. It’s a recipe for disaster.
