Rashid Shaheed: ‘Pure Excitement’ For First Game With Seahawks

“It’s been really smooth being here with Coach Kubiak and getting a feel for the offense again,” he said. “It’s been a good transition… It’s all familiar, it’s all starting to click in my brain, and I feel like it should come back pretty quick and shouldn’t miss too much at all.”

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald has been impressed with what Rasheed has been able to get done in his first week with the team.

“He’s doing great, just keeps attacking it,” Macdonald said. “It’s one of those deals where he has done a great job so far and the prep won’t stop until all the way through game time.”

Macdonald didn’t say exactly how much Rasheed will play in his debut, but said, “We’ve got a plan for him, and I can’t wait to see him play. He’s done a great job.”

In a bit of quirk of scheduling and the timing of the trade, Shaheed won’t get a bye week this season because the Seahawks already had their bye and New Orleans’ bye is next week. That means Shaheed has a chance to join Leonard Williams, who played 18 games after being traded during the 2023 season, as the rare players to play 18 games in a season.

When Williams played 18 games in 2023, he became the first player to play 18 games in a season since Tony Kostos and Cookie Tackwell both did it in 1930 playing for the Frankford Yellow Jackets and Minneapolis Red Jackets.

“No bye week for me,” Shaheed said with a grin. “Long season ahead. Go a full 18.”
