After their mid-week win against Rangers in the Europa League, Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma return to their domestic responsibilities, hosting 10th-place Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico. After winning five of their first six matches to start the season, Roma has dropped two of their past four league matches, losing a pair of 1-0 matches against Inter Milan and AC Milan. While there’s certainly no shame in that, those defeats halted Roma’s storybook beginning, ending their early season reign at the top of the table.
However, with the Giallorossi still boasting Serie A’s best defense, the capital club is only one point behind league-leading Milan, which drew 17th-place Parma 2-2 on Saturday. With nearly three-quarters of the season remaining, there will be plenty of jockeying at the top of the table, but a win over Udinese today could potentially put Roma back in first place.
