Penguins’ Sergei Murashov to make NHL debut against Kings

Sergei Murashov will make his NHL debut as the Pittsburgh Penguins face the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday afternoon at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

According to Penguins team Michelle Crechiolo, Murashov couldn’t be happier.

In seven games with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Murashov is 5-2-0 with a .931 save percentage (SV%) and 1.73 goals against average (GAA). In 23 career AHL games, the 21-year-old netminder has a 17-5-0 record with a 2.36 GAA and .918 SV%.

He also spent a chunk of the 2024-25 season with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, going 17-7-1 with a 2.40 GAA and .922 SV%.

Taken by the Penguins in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Murashov, a native of Yaroslavl, Russia, spent parts of five seasons in the MHL, Russia’s second-tier professional league. In 125 career games with the Yaroslavl Loki program, he posted a 73-30-12 record with a .934 SV% and 2.04 GAA.

Going into Sunday, the Penguins are 9-4-3 with 21 points through 16 games in 2025-26. Arturs Silovs leads the team with a 4-2-3 record, a .916 SV% and 2.49 GAA. Meanwhile, Tristan Jarry, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, has a .911 SV% with a 2.60 GAA, winning five of his first seven starts.

Among skaters, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin lead the team with 20 points each. Crosby’s 11 goals lead Pittsburgh and are tied for second among all NHL skaters. Meanwhile, Malkin’s 17 assists are tied for first in the league with Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid.
