At halftime, McCarthy is 9-of-15 passing for 130 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. McCarthy will need to connect with Hockenson in the second half if the Vikings are going to take control of the game over Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
According to the PFSN NFL TE Impact metrics, Hockenson has a TE Impact Score of 73.9 and grades out with a C. Hockenson played his first three-plus seasons with the Detroit Lions before joining the Vikings in the 2022 NFL season.
For his career, Hockenson has 411 receptions for 4,235 yards and 25 touchdown catches. He’s been active in this season, so far, for the Vikings, though. Entering Sunday’s game against the Ravens, Hockenson has 29 catches for 233 yards and two touchdown receptions.
Hockenson played two seasons for the Iowa Hawkeyes in college football before getting drafted in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Lions. In 26 college games, Hockenson had 73 catches for 1,080 yards and nine touchdown receptions. Hockenson, in his final college season, had 49 catches for 760 yards and six touchdown catches.
As the Vikings got the ball to start the second half, though, McCarthy threw an interception. Minnesota needs its offense to get in gear, and starting this way is not a good sign.
According to the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metrics, the Vikings have a 67.9 Offense Impact Score and grade out at a D+. Those numbers are not good at all, and Hockenson, if he can get involved with the Minnesota offense on Sunday against Baltimore, can be a factor.
But McCarthy will have to find him in clutch moments. The Vikings need to get a win against the Ravens on Sunday, so look for Hockenson to play some type of role as the game rolls along.
