Giants Owner Talked Out of Drastic Head-Coaching Move: Report

Aside from the emergence of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, not much has gone right for the New York Giants this season.
The team is 2-7, on a three-game losing streak, and breakout rookie running back Cam Skattebo and star receiver Malik Nabers are both lost for the year with brutal season-ending injuries.
While the Giants’ future may be bright once it gets all three of its core of young offensive stars healthy, head coach Brian Daboll might not be around to see it.
It’s been speculated that Daboll, a former AP NFL Coach of the Year, could be fired after the season ends if he finishes with a third straight losing season.
And according to WFAN 660’s Shaun Morash, Giants owner John Mara nearly fired Daboll three weeks ago when the Giants allowed four fourth-quarter touchdowns to the Denver Broncos and blew a 26-8 lead before losing 33-32.

“I’ve now gotten this from multiple people I trust — the Giants were firing Brian Daboll off the plane after the collapse in Denver,” Morash said. “He was fired.
“Ownership got together, cooler heads prevailed, and they decided not to fire Brian Daboll off the plane in Denver. But in the immediacy of that collapse, enough apparently was enough for people of importance on the Giants.”
Though Daboll’s job appears to be safe for now—Mara has made it known he wants some semblance of stability for his franchise—the fourth-year coach knows he’s firmly on the hot seat.
And if he didn’t, the aggressive New York media made sure he did. Daboll was asked during his media availability on Friday how he feels about potentially being on the chopping block.
“There are a lot of reports out there,” Daboll said. “So, I don’t think you focus on those, you focus on the things you can control.
