Commanders’ Daron Payne ejected from game

DETROIT – Amon-Ra St. Brown got punched after a play against the Washington Commanders, so the Detroit Lions went for a two-point conversion.
Video shows veteran defensive tackle Daron Payne winding up and striking St. Brown near the bottom of his helmet or neck area while both teams were standing on the field after a Lions touchdown.

Payne was ejected from the game, and since they got half the distance to the goal from that penalty, the Lions decided to go for two. The conversion was successful, and Detroit took a 22-3 lead early in the second quarter.
The Commanders picked up another 15-yard penalty after the two-point conversion, so they were clearly frustrated by the early struggles in the game.

It’s been a rough season for the Washington team that knocked Detroit out of the playoffs a year ago. Quarterback Jayden Daniels remains out with an injury, and they came into the matchup with a 3-6 record.
Detroit is 5-3 but coming off an ugly home loss to the underdog Minnesota Vikings.
