Kelvin Fletcher revealed some thrilling pregnancy news during Sunday’s instalment of Fletcher’s Family Farm, declaring that his cherished cow, Ruby, was expecting.
The moment proved deeply moving for Kelvin, as the veterinary surgeon had previously confirmed Ruby had experienced a miscarriage, meaning they needed to remain patient whilst she recuperated.
Nevertheless, in today’s programme, the vet verified that Ruby was indeed pregnant and her calf was approximately 14 weeks developed, meaning the Fletcher household would be welcoming a fresh arrival to their Cheshire farm.
Prior to the veterinarian’s arrival, the former Emmerdale actor revealed: “Several weeks ago, we got the sad news that our much-loved cow Ruby miscarried her calf.
“Thankfully, she was soon well enough to run with our young bull again, and today, we will find out if he’s done his job,” reports the Express.

He added: “We’ve got Hugo the vet here, and we’ve got all our cows in the shed, and then we’ll get Ruby in, and all being well, she’s back in calf, and she’ll be calving not too long after Cherry, because the plan is obviously the Royal Cheshire Show 2025.
“Four children and the young handlers. That’s my that’s my dream from last year. So fingers crossed.”
Yet determining Ruby’s pregnancy status wasn’t Kelvin’s sole concern, as veterinary surgeon Hugo was also present at the farm to examine the cattle herd for TB.
TB remains a persistent infectious illness that continues to pose problems across certain regions of England and Wales. Hugo was required to collect two hair samples from each cow to determine whether any were infected with the disease.
Revealing the harsh reality, Kelvin explained to the camera, “Anybody who keeps cattle has to go through this every six months.
“If you do get a reaction, and if they deem it conclusive, that animal needs to be culled. It’s devastating on your herd.”

Whilst Hugo examined Ruby, he informed Kelvin, “Okay, so we’ve got a pregnancy.
“So she is three months in calf, 12 weeks, possibly a bit more, actually, looking at the size of the legs, 14 weeks, so a bit late for show season, but I think we were expecting that one.”
Kelvin beamed as he responded, “Yeah, we were. That’s good news, she’s back in calf. That’s the main thing, and it’s healthy. So she’s unfortunately gonna miss the Cheshire show.”
He subsequently added, “I’m so thrilled for Ruby. She produced such a cracking calf last year. I just hope this one is a simpler birth.”
Fletcher’s Family Farm is available to watch on ITVX.
