Princess of Wales’ subtle nod to family as she makes unexpected appearance for Remembrance Sunday

The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance for Remembrance Sunday, making a solemn nod to the day in her fashion choices.
Kate Middleton, 43, stepped out with husband Prince William, her father-in-law King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, at the Cenotaph on Sunday, November 9.
While William and Charles marched in the annual memorial parade and laid wreaths, Kate and Camilla watched on from the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The two women, both dressed in black, watched on before they joined in and sang the national anthem together.
Catherine made a nod to several late family members with the jewellery she wore for the service, along with one subtle change to her outfit.
She wore Princess Diana’s Collingwood pearl drop earrings, which feature a diamond stud and drop design holding a pearl.
She also sported a Royal Air Force brooch.

The pin no doubt holds special meaning to the princess, whose grandfather, Peter Middleton, served in World War II as a pilot.
Catherine made a change to one detail of her traditional Remembrance outfit, opting for one large poppy instead of her usual three pinned to the lapel of her coat.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla wore three flowers, along with Duchess Sophie.
There is one theory that royals wear multiple brooches to honour family who have fought and died in wars, although this has never been confirmed by the palace.
During the service Camilla and Catherine spoke on the balcony, and at one point it was clear that it was an emotional day, with the princess wiping away a tear.

The princess’ surprise outing at the Cenotaph comes after she was joined by Prince George at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday night UK time alongside the King and Queen.
It was the first time the 12-year-old, who is second in line to the throne, had attended the service at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
He has previously attended the VE Day 80 military procession with his parents and siblings, and met Second World War veterans at Buckingham Palace in May.
Prince George is gradually being eased into royal life, with several public appearances this year.
