Flood risk in Gloucestershire during high tides as alert issued

People are urged to avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water

There could be flooding on Friday night (November 7) and on Saturday morning (November 8) due to high tides on the River Wye in Gloucestershire.
The affected stretch runs from Coleford in the Forest of Dean down to Chepstow in Wales.
According to the Environment Agency, there could be flooding from 8pm on Friday and from 8am on Saturday.
Issuing a Flood Alert, which means flooding is possible, the agency says: “Flooding may affect low lying land and roads adjacent the Wye Estuary from Redbrook to Chepstow.”
It says the predicted peaks at Avonmouth Portbury are 7.4m to 7.7 on Friday and 6.9m to 7.2m on Friday at Newport.

On Saturday, the high tide is forecast between 8am and 9am with predicted peaks of 7.3m to 7.6m at Avonmouth Portbury and 6.8m to 7.1m at Newport.
It adds: “We are closely monitoring the situation. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
The Met Office is forecasting some heavy rain in the Forest of Dean on Friday up until 6pm, with light rain until 8pm.
Saturday is looking dry and bright, with light rain due on Sunday.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: Dry to start on Sunday, but soon turning unsettled later as rain pushes eastwards, with further rain arriving Monday. Becoming drier but windier on Tuesday with sunny spells. Chillier nights.
