A national retailer known for sneakers and more is prepping a store in Columbia’s most popular mall.

JD Sports, a long-running company with locations across the U.S., will have a store in the Columbiana Centre mall off Harbison Boulevard. The store will be on northern end of the mall, near stores such as Hollister and Auntie Anne’s pretzels.

The windows of the space where JD Sports is coming were covered with banners touting its coming arrival Thursday afternoon, and work was going on inside the store to prep the space. New illuminated JD signs were hanging above the doorway. An opening date for the spot has not been publicly announced.

There are hundreds of JD Sports locations across the U.S. The stores carry name brand sneakers and apparel from companies including Nike, Adidas, Asics, New Balance, Hoka and many others.

There are a number of spots for sneakers and shoes inside the Columbiana Centre, including a Tradehome Shoes location that opened earlier this fall.

Columbiana Centre has remained a popular shopping destination northwest of downtown Columbia, featuring a host of department stores, restaurants, clothiers, and various other retailers. It is a prominent shopping hub amid the larger Harbison area that is lined with big box stores, bars and eateries, movie theaters and hotels.
