Paul W. Smith: Detroit’s holiday traditions are in full swing

“ Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’ ”

And so it begins. Actually, it began this past Friday.

The Parade Company and its president and CEO, Tony Michaels, kicked off “The Big Four”  with the 26th Annual Pancake Breakfast presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network of Michigan. Thank you, Tricia Keith, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, for embracing the importance of continuing this long time tradition.

Next up is the amazing Hob Nobble Gobble presented by Ford on Nov. 21 at Ford Field (thank you, Mary Culler). This will be great fun for the whole family, with a few tables still available at last check online at www.theparade.org.

After that, we have the S3 Turkey Trot, whose entries are already up over last year, thanks to Cindy Pasky.

The last event is America’s Thanksgiving Parade, presented by Gardner White. Special thanks to Rachel Stewart.

I’m happy to announce USA Today has once again nominated our parade as one of the Best Holiday Parades in America! This is, of course, an honor that our world-class parade currently holds after being voted number one for the fourth time in 2024.

We can all help retain this honor by voting today, and every day, through Dec. 1.

This 99th edition of America’s Thanksgiving Parade will continue the tradition of bringing people together in a very special way, from folks listening to my pre-parade coverage on 760 WJR Radio or streaming us at WJR.com to families gathering on Woodward Avenue, tuning into WDIV Channel 4, or the millions watching around the country.

Go to www.usatoday.com to vote so Detroit can retain the number one spot again.

Paul W. Smith is host of “Focus” on WJR-AM (760) from noon to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday.
