Christmas market extended amid ‘record-breaking numbers’

A popular, town centre Christmas market is to return with scores of traders who will showcase their goods for 10 days.
Building on the success of recent years, shoppers in Tenterden will be able to enjoy more than 100 stalls across the town from next week.

This year’s event will last for 10 consecutive days, compared to just three in 2024.
Put on by Zoom Events, the company says the decision has been made amid “record-breaking numbers in recent years”.
Beginning at midday next Friday (November 14), visitors will also be able to see Tenterden’s Christmas light switch on later that evening.
Until November 20, the market will be positioned in the High Street from Ozgur’s restaurant to Station Road, and then expand further between November 21 and 23 into East Cross.
Traders will include craft stalls, gifts and street food – including Thai, Mexican, Indian and Greek grub.

Set amongst the many independent high street shops and cafes, live entertainment, including musical performances, will also take place on Fridays and weekends.
Further activities include wood turning demonstrations throughout the week and magic trick activities.
Ashford Borough Council councillor Pam Smith says the extended dates are a sign of how popular the market has become.
The Tory representative for Tenterden South ward told KentOnline: “It’s evolved a lot over time and is a good thing for the town.
“It actually used to be just on a Friday more than 30 years ago for one night and was always manic then with people being carried through the high street.
“Since then it has got longer and longer, and now it takes a lot of work to put on and that’s why a company runs it.
Dates for Tenterden Christmas Market
“The main Christmas lights are being put up as we speak and they’ll be switched on when it starts which is always nice to see.
“Anything which encourages people to come to Tenterden makes us proud here – hopefully it brings some more footfall to the other shops too.”
