Ruby Wax says the biggest misconception she wants to dispel is: “To show people I’m not aggressive. I was stereotyped during my career.”
Ruby Wax OBE – Presenter, author and comedian
Comedian Ruby Wax rose to fame in the 90’s with a series of high-profile celebrity interviews.
In recent years, she has been a vocal mental health campaigner, for which she was awarded her OBE.
Wax, 72, said she was looking forward to meeting her fellow campmates.
She added: “I was offered the chance to take part a long time ago and I thought, ‘No, I could never do that’ but now it’s the right time. I like doing adventurous things.
“It will be nice for people to get to know the real me because you can’t hide in the jungle.
“In my personas before, I looked quite aggressive and pushy, and I think it was just my nerves. I am not aggressive; it’s the way I talk. I’m not confrontational, and it looked like I was.”
Martin Kemp said aside from his family he would miss his phone the most: “We are all telephone addicts.”
Martin Kemp – Actor and pop star
Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp is hoping he can follow in the footsteps of his radio DJ son Roman Kemp, who finished third place in a previous series of I’m a Celebrity.
Martin said: “I’ve had to cancel some jobs, but when Roman was on I’m A Celebrity, I was addicted. I watched it every day and enjoyed it so much. I felt it was now time in my life for an adventure.
“I have been on this journey of DJ’ing over the last five years, it has been non-stop, and I thought it was time to give something back to myself. I absolutely love the show; it is iconic TV, which I love being part of.”
Kelly Brook said she’s looking forward to introducing herself to generations of viewers who might not know who she is.
Kelly Brook – DJ and model
Model, actor and TV personality, Kelly Brook currently cohosts a show on Heart Radio.
The 45 year old had previously vowed to never take part in I’m A Celebrity but had changed her mind after being inspired by her husband Jeremy.
She said: “I didn’t think it was ever in me to do the challenges and Bushtucker Trials. But since I have been with my husband, we have done a few things that I’ve surprised myself by. We did Race Across the World, and I ran the London marathon this year – two things I never thought I had in me.
“I’m such a fan of the show that I thought, ‘Maybe I could do it, maybe I could cope.’ I won’t know unless I try and so I am going to throw myself into it.”
Jack Osbourne said aside from his family he’s miss his “comfortable bed” and “cold drinks” the most in the jungle.
Jack Osbourne – TV Personality
Jack Osbourne rose to fame in the MTV reality show “The Osbournes”, which centred on his famous family.
He went on to front several TV shows, including the adventure series “Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie.”
Jack says his mum Sharon and sister Kelly have given him their “full support,” admitting they told him they hope being in the jungle takes his mind off the death of his dad, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, earlier this year.
He said: “Mum and Kelly, yeah they are absolutely going to be watching. They are supportive.
“It’s absolutely going to be hard leaving them behind. I have got lots of kids, my wife, and my family still in the wake of my dad passing. It is going to be difficult, that is for sure.
“It’s not the longest amount of time I’ve been away from them. I’ve gone on different trips filming Adrenaline Junkie for nearly two months without a phone, but I still had access to one and I was able to make calls home.
“It’s going to be very difficult not speaking to my wife and kids. But yes, I do hope I can make my family proud.”
Aitch said he wants people to “understand I’m not just a stereotypical obnoxious rapper you can’t approach,” during his time in the jungle.
Aitch – Rapper
MOBO and Brit award winning rapper and songwriter Aitch wants to inspire younger viewers while in the jungle.
The Mancunian artist, real name Harrison Armstrong, is also hoping to raise awareness about Down Syndrome whilst in the camp. His sister, Gracie has the genetic disorder.
He said: “I feel like I have got this calling to raise awareness for Down syndrome and I feel that’s the perfect place.
“Also, you don’t always want to be stuck in the same world forever. You can branch out and do other things. You don’t have to stick to the code (rap world), because you think that’s cool.
“I did have to cancel some gigs for it. But you are never going to branch out if you do the same thing all the time.”
Alex Scott said it “will be nice to show my real self,” claiming “people have an idea of who I am on TV.”
Alex Scott MBE – Sports broadcaster and former Lioness
Former Lioness Alex Scott hopes her competitive streak will help her win stars in the challenges.
The Arsenal and England professional footballer earned 140 caps for her country before retiring to football punditry.
Alex says her partner, the singer Jess Glynne, thinks she is ‘absolutely mental’ for signing up for the show.
She added: “I will need to push myself to speak out around all of the different and big personalities. Not going into myself for being the shy one will be my big challenge.
“People see you on TV and they assume you are outgoing, that loud person but take me to red carpets or events and I am the one in the corner going, ‘talk to me, please give me a plus one so I don’t have to be that person who walks in on my own.’ It’s going to be a challenge.”
Angry Ginge said he would miss “football and streaming” the most, as he usually “makes Youtube videos every day.”
Angry Ginge – Content creator
Angry Ginge, whose real name is Morgan Burtwistle rose to prominence playing video games online.
With several million followers on social media, the 23 year old from Salford predicts his fans will vote for him to take part in the dreaded Bushtucker Trials to watch him squirm.
Calling I’m A Celebrity Angry a ‘bucket list’ opportunity, Angry Ginge said: “I’ve watched the show on the sofa with my mum ever since I was a kid. To take part in it this year is something I couldn’t pass up on.
“But my whole life is spent on the phone. I’ve been away once for a week. And so, two to three weeks without it is going to be very educational to see how I will do.”
Shona McGarty said she’s mostly been known for the character she play sin EastEnders and hopes she gets to show her real self in the jungle.
Shona McGarty – Eastenders actor
Actor Shona is best known for playing Whitney Dean in EastEnders for 16 years.
Since leaving the show, she has taken up singing and appeared in the West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story.
While admitting she is scared to face trials involving water, Shona said: “To be honest, I have always wanted to do I’m A Celebrity because I am a massive fan of the show.
“Now that I have left EastEnders, I want to do other things. I’m finding my voice and who I am away from the script and character that I grew up playing. Everyone expects me to wear massive gold hoop earrings and have a ponytail whilst eating chicken nuggets, but I am nothing like that.
“I’m looking forward to using this experience to be completely myself, which nobody has seen.”
Eddie Kadi said he is looking forward to showing a more serious side to himself in the jungle.
Eddie Kadi – Comedian
Comedian and radio host, Eddie Kadi was the first Black British comedian to headline London’s The O2 Arena.
He has previously appeared on reality show Strictly Come Dancing and hosts the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
On preparing himself for the jungle, Eddie revealed he has been doing intermittent fasting. He added: “I am not too great on rice and beans. It takes me back to my university days. I like flavour, I don’t know how I will survive.
“I have never camped outside before either, and the closest thing I have come to this is a walk in Kew Gardens. I have done a zip line, but no bungee jumping or sky diving. It’s going to be the first of many things.”
Lisa Riley said aside from her family she’d miss mascara the most while in the camp.
Lisa Riley – Emmerdale actor
Best known for playing Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale, Lisa Riley has appeared in several other TV shows, including Strictly Come Dancing.
Despite being asked to be on I’m A Celebrity a number of times, Riley revealed she finally said yes this year because of a series of major life milestones.
She said: “I’m going to be 50 next year, it’s thirty years on and off playing Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale and ten years of being sober. It’s like a big baguette where everything I wanted was in it. And it’s I’m A Celebrity’s 25th series anniversary too.
I’m A Celebrity starts Sunday at 9pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV & STV Player
