Broncos LB Alex Singleton underwent successful surgery for testicular cancer

Denver Broncos inside linebacker Alex Singleton underwent successful surgery for testicular cancer last week, Singleton announced to his teammates on Monday, then to the world on social media.

Singleton, 31, was alerted to elevated levels of hormone hCG after a random drug test two weeks ago. He then booked an appointment with a urologist, which revealed signs of a testicular tumor last Monday.

Singleton then played against the Las Vegas Raiders last Thursday before undergoing surgery to remove the cancerous tumor last Friday. Singleton tied for the team high with nine tackles in a 10-7 win over the Raiders.

“I wrestled with sharing such personal information publicly,” Singleton wrote in a message on his Twitter/X page. “But the fact is, if it helps one person decide to pay closer attention to their body, then it is well worth it.”

In a statement, the Broncos said Singleton is “recovering well from the procedure with doctors optimistic he could return to play in the coming weeks pending additional test results.”

The team’s statement continued: “Our No. 1 priority is Alex’s health and well-being, and we are grateful it appears the cancer was caught early.”

A team captain, Singleton has played for Denver since 2022, totaling 460 tackles, nine pass breakups, three sacks and one interception over the last three and a half seasons (47 games). Dre Greenlaw and Justin Strnad are expected to start while Singleton is sidelined. The Broncos also have rookie Karene Reid on the active roster, plus Levelle Bailey and Jordan Turner on the practice squad.

Denver’s preparing to host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
