Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer and had surgery to remove a tumor on Friday, he said in a social media post Monday.
The 31-year-old veteran played all 60 of Denver’s snaps in last Thursday’s 10-7 victory against the Raiders, the night before the operation. He said he believes “the cancer was caught early with a great prognosis for me and my family.”
Singleton told the team about his diagnosis on Monday morning and said in his post, “While we are still awaiting some additional test results, I fully expect to return to the field in the coming weeks.”
I shared this news with our team this morning.
I’m grateful for everyone’s support and can’t wait to get back on the field soon!

Singleton said he was randomly selected a little more than two weeks ago to be tested under the league’s drug testing program. He received notice following the test that he had elevated levels of the hormone hCG in his system.
“Without a doubt, I knew how diligent I am with what goes into my body that this was not from anything external I may have taken,” Singleton said. “After speaking with my agent and wife, we decided to book an appointment with a urologist.”
Singleton found out one week ago, three days before the game against the Raiders, that he had signs of testicular cancer and an ultrasound later confirmed the diagnosis.
“Our No. 1 priority is Alex’s health and well-being,” the Broncos said in a statement, “and we are grateful it appears the cancer was caught early. Alex and his family have our unwavering support as we look forward to welcoming him back on the field soon.”
