Bloomin’ Brands, the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian grill and other restaurant chains in Michigan, is closing a number of restaurants this fall.

The U.S. dining company owns Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, according to its website.

While Bloomin’ Brands didn’t specify where locations are closing, the company said it had already closed 21 restaurants and would not renew the leases for 22 other restaurants, according to a Nov. 6 news release.

“We have great momentum in our business as demonstrated by our third quarter results,” said CEO Mike Spanos. “All four brands drove positive comparable store sales growth for the first time since Q1 2023. Our teams continue to focus on consistency of execution in food quality and the guest experience, the foundation for our turnaround.”

Bloomin’ Brands did not say if any Michigan restaurants would close.

What’s happening at Bloomin’ Brands?

Bloomin’ Brands, the parent company of four restaurant chains with Michigan locations, closed 21 U.S. restaurants during the three-month period ending on Sept. 28, and will not renew the releases of 22 others, most set to expire over the next four years, the company announced in the news release.

The move comes as Bloomin’ Brands adapts its business model in the wake of subpar results on its 2025 third quarter finances, according to the release, including changes to its dine-in experience, ownership culture, branding and restaurant investments.

“I am excited to announce our turnaround strategy, with a focus on the Outback Steakhouse brand. In support of our strategy, we will reallocate available free cash flow into strategic investments in our base business and pay down debt. As a result, we have suspended the dividend. We believe our strategic plan will drive long-term, sustainable and profitable growth,” Spanos said.
