Everyone you know younger than 25 has never experienced a moment when a human hasn’t been in space, orbiting our world. That’s a population of around 3 billion people, or about 40% of the 8 billion people alive on Earth today.

Humankind passed this noteworthy milestone on Sunday, Nov. 2, thanks to the amazing International Space Station. Weighing in at almost 1 million pounds, it is the largest – and arguably the most complex – manmade object ever to orbit the Earth. Perhaps you’ve heard of it.
