Steelers bring back rookie safety

Castro, an undrafted free agent out of Iowa, signed with the Steelers following the 2025 NFL Draft. Castro didn’t make Pittsburgh’s initial 53-man roster, but started the year on the practice squad.

However, Castro was poached off the Steelers practice squad by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 30. He was eventually waived by Tampa Bay on Nov. 8, and Pittsburgh is now bringing him back.

Castro appeared in one game with the Buccaneers this season, recording one tackle on six special teams snaps. Now, he’ll be joining the Steelers’ 53-man roster for the first time this season.
