Detroit Pistons PG Cade Cunningham earns second career NBA Player of the Week honor after dominant stretch

DETROIT – The NBA announced that Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 3, through Sunday, Nov. 9.
This is the second time in his career Cunningham has received the honor.
The 6’6” 243 243-pound All-Star led the Pistons to a perfect 4-0 week.
Cunningham averaged 31 points on 54.7% shooting from the field and 36% from three-point range.
He also contributed 3.3 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 0.3 blocks, and 0.8 steals in 37.3 minutes per game.
The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Cunningham holds season averages of 25.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 9.8 assists while shooting 46.5% from the field and 30.6% from beyond the arc in 10 games.
His 9.8 assists per game rank second in the NBA and are the highest by a Pistons player since Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame guard and Pistons’ legend Isiah Thomas averaged 10.0 in the 1986-87 season.
Cunningham had a standout start to the week, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter during a road win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
He finished that game with 33 points on 12-of-20 shooting and 3-of-6 from three-point range, snapping a nine-game losing streak against Memphis.
Cunningham carried that momentum into a game against the Utah Jazz, scoring 31 points and dishing out 10 assists.
On Friday (Nov. 7) against the Brooklyn Nets, Cunningham posted a season-high 34 points on 13-of-18 shooting, along with 10 assists and one steal, helping the Pistons secure their fifth straight win.
Cunningham capped off the week by leading Detroit to a road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers with 26 points, 11 assists, and one steal.
This marked his sixth 20-point double-double of the season, ranking second in the league behind Nikola Jokic, who has seven.
Thanks to Cunningham’s hot start, Detroit boasts an 8-2 record through 10 games, the franchise’s best start through 10 games since 2005.
