‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ Season 2 Return Date Set At Apple

The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 will return to Apple TV next year, and Rita Wilson has joined the cast for the next installment.
The second season of the drama series, based on Laura Dave’s forthcoming sequel novel The First Time I Saw Him, will premiere Friday, February 20, 2026. There will be eight episodes.
Season 2 will pick up as Owen Michaels (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) shows up after five years on the run, initiating a race for Hannah Hall (Jennifer Garner) and her stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice) to reunite their family “before the past catches up to them,” as the logline teases.
The First Time I Saw Him will publish January 6, 2026, providing a hint at what’s to come for Hannah, Owen, Bailey and more ahead of the Season 2 premiere.
Season 1 — which debuted in April 2023 — ended with Owen silently and subtly signaling to Hannah that he was still around by walking through her exhibition heavily disguised. Hannah had made a deal with Bailey’s grandfather Nicholas Bell (played by David Morse) that no harm would come to any of the three of them if Owen agreed to stay far away from Bailey. This is where Dave’s first novel, The Last Thing He Told Me, ended as well.

Returning cast are Augusto Aguilera, Josh Hamilton, Nick Hargrove and Michael Hyatt. Newcomers in addition to Judy Greer, whose casting Deadline first announced, and Wilson include Michael Galante, John Noble, and Luke Kirby. Missing from the returners is Aisha Tyler, who played Hannah’s best friend Jules Nichols.
Season 2 is executive produced by co-showrunners Josh Singer and Aaron Zelman alongside Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter. Star Garner also executive produces. Zelman joins Season 2 as co-showrunner.
The Last Thing He Told Me is produced by 20th Television and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Created and adapted by Laura Dave, alongside Academy Award-winning co-creator Josh Singer, The Last Thing He Told Me was the first collaboration between the married Dave and Singer, who both serve as executive producers. Aaron Zelman, Daisy von Scherler Mayer and Merri D. Howard also serve as executive producers.
