‘Landman’ cast changes: See who isn’t coming back for season 2

Season 2 of “Landman” premieres on Paramount+ on Sunday, Nov. 16, but not all the season 1 stars are returning.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 1 of “Landman.”

Jon Hamm won’t be back after his character, Monty Miller, had a massive heart attack during the season 1 finale.

“It is safe to say that Monty has passed,” series cocreator Christian Wallace confirmed to Variety in January. “But when you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players — and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point.”

Wallace added that cocreator Taylor Sheridan had “big plans” for Demi Moore in season 2. Moore, who plays Monty’s wife, Cami Miller, had a relatively small role in season 1. Her name will appear directly after leading man Billy Bob Thornton’s (Tommy Norris) in season 2, as opposed to second to last in season 1.

Alex Meraz won’t be back for season 2 of “Landman” for the same reason as Hamm. His character, drug cartel lieutenant Jimenez, died during season 1.

In addition to Moore and Thornton, Andy Garcia (Galino), Ali Larter (Angela Norris), Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris), Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris), Paulina Chávez (Ariana Medina), Kayla Wallace (Rebecca Falcone), Mark Collie (Sheriff Walt Joeberg), and James Jordan (Dale Bradley) will all reprise their roles in season 2. Colm Feore, who plays Tommy’s roommate Nathan, has been upgraded from a recurring cast member to a series regular.

Some fresh faces are also joining the cast. Not much information has been shared about Sam Elliott‘s character, but Thornton calling him “pop” in the season 2 trailer suggests he’s playing his father.

“Grey’s Anatomy” alum Stefania Spampinato will play the wife of cartel boss Galino in season 2. Garcia, who plays Galino, has been bumped up from a guest star to a main cast member. He didn’t make his “Landman” debut until the season 1 finale.

Thornton said it was “really great” working with Garcia during a January interview with Deadline.

“He and I have known each other for years and it’s the first time we worked together,” Thornton shared.

“Landman,” which premiered in November 2024, follows Tommy (Thornton), a petroleum Landman and Operations VP at M-Tex Oil. After the death of M-Tex owner Monty Miller, Tommy faces “new pressures” in season 2, as widow Cami Miller “pushes him to the brink.”

Season 2 of “Landman” premieres on Paramount+ on Sunday, Nov. 16.
