Forecasters have warned that the UK will see further changeable weather this week, with spells of heavy and persistent rain and drier, brighter interludes, before cooler air moves in from the north.

Yellow warning for heavy rain have been issued for over Northern Ireland on Tuesday as bands of rain move across the country from the southwest.

20-30mm is probable over the course of around 18 hours, with some high ground perhaps receiving 40mm or more over the likes of the Mourne Mountains.

The warning is in place from 6am to 9pm on Tuesday.

Met Office Chief Forecaster, Neil Armstrong, said: “The UK is in for an unsettled week of weather, with frequent spells of heavy rain and at times strong, gusty winds.

Given recent wet weather and saturated ground in places, this could lead to some flooding. Difficult travelling conditions are also expected, with delays and the increased possibility of accidents.”

By the weekend much of the UK will be under the cooler airmass with overnight frosts in places, and while there will still be some showers around it’ll be a much drier and brighter spell of weather.
