The trial is due to begin today of a Kerry man accused of murdering his mother.
Billy Burns, who is in his fifties, formerly of Arlington Lodge, Church Street Tralee, is due to stand trial today in the Central Criminal Court.
He’s charged with the murder of his mother, Miriam Burns, in 2022.
The body of 75-year-old Miriam Burns was discovered at her home in Ardshanavooley, Killarney, on August 15th 2022.
In March 2023, her son Billy Burns was charged with the murder of his mother on a date between 12th and 15th August 2022.
The court previously heard Mr Burns replied, “no comment”, when the single charge of murder was put to him.
Mr Burns was sent forward for trial in April 2023, and was served with the book of evidence against him.
The trial of Mr Burns, who is represented by Killarney solicitor Pádraig O’Connell, is due to begin this morning at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
A jury will need to be sworn in before evidence can begin being heard in the trial.
It’s expected the full trial will take at least two weeks, with a considerable number of witnesses due to be called to give evidence.
