This sizing overhaul has caused confusion for Vinted users, with many taking to online forums to share their frustration.

Shoppers and sellers criticised the automatic update to sizing for all items, with some even being recategorised.

Size matters

Existing listings will now show a different size category than originally posted.

This could affect how these items appear in search filters, potentially altering how buyers perceive them.

For buyers, the sizes they previously associated as small, medium, or large may now map differently.

This means shoppers will need to check actual measurements and the tagged photos more carefully before purchasing.

The added work could be regarded as a detterent for shoppers who are used to a more convenient way of navigating the platform.

Given Vinted’s predominant role as a clothes re-seller, these changes are especially important.

Listing the tag size and the garment’s actual measurements for second-hand clothing helps avoid misunderstandings between users.

“We’ve updated our size guidelines for women’s and kid’s clothing to make sizing more accurate across international brands,” a Vinted spokesperson told The Sun.

“UK members will have received a message in their Vinted inbox with more details and you can also find full information on our Help Centre“.

Vinted user reactions

“Aaargh!! WTF have they done?!” asked one frustrated poster on Netmums.

“It was terrible before but now it’s going to be absolutely impossible to find the right size, it’s just chaos.

“Now if I want a size 14, I can only choose medium which will show me all size 12 and 14s.”

The shopper pointed out how the update affected their experience as a seller too.

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted…

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

“And now my for sale items have completely the wrong size on them!!” they added.

Another Vinted user claimed “it’s actually worse than that”.

“I just experimented by choosing both M and L – since I’m currently between a 14 and 16 – and I’m getting shown things that people have listed as M,” the shopper explained.

However, since Vinted appeared to be following “the old system”, the buyer was shown items in size 10s.

“Well, that’s f**king useless and catching out a hell of a lot of users,” they concluded.
