UK weather: Met Office issues yellow warnings for rain and wind amid flood threat

During Tuesday, an area of rain will stall across central and southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Some of this will be heavy and a Met Office yellow warning is in force for south-west Scotland – valid until 23:59 GMT – and much of Northern Ireland – valid until 21:00 GMT.
There could be as much as 20-40mm (0.8-1.5in) with a few places seeing 60mm (2.4in).
The warning suggests the evening commute could be particularly difficult with lots of surface water spray and flooding on the roads.
During Tuesday afternoon another band of heavy and potentially thundery rain will spread in from the west across Wales and south-west England.
There are additional Met Office yellow warnings for this across south Wales valid until 23:59 GMT.
Another warning is in force for Cornwall and Devon for rain and wind valid until 18:00 GMT on Wednesday.
Up to 60-80mm (2.4-3in) of rain could build up, especially to the south facing hills.
With recent wet weather and saturated ground, this could lead to some localised flooding.
Difficult driving conditions for the Tuesday evening commute are also possible.
Accompanying the heavy rain will be a rather strong south-westerly wind, adding to the potentially difficult conditions.
More rain is expected on Wednesday across southern England and Wales.
With rainfall totals increasing in South Wales, an additional Met Office yellow rain warning has been issued for Wednesday 06:00 to 23:59 GMT.
Further heavy rain at times for the end of the week may result in more weather warnings being issued but you can keep up to date with them here.
