Police: Two bodies removed from crypts during mausoleum burglary

PLAINS TOWNSHIP — Police are looking for information on the whereabouts of two bodies that were reportedly taken from a crumbling mausoleum during a burglary in Plains Township earlier this month.

According to police, some time between Nov. 1 and Nov. 6, the remains of two people were removed from their crypts at Good Shepherd Memorial Mausoleum located on Westminster Road.

The owners of the cemetery and mausoleum insist they did not know they were buying a cemetery and, as a result, have not maintained it, according to previous reporting by 28/22 News.

Emotions ran high back in November 2024 as the remains of Alice and Carl Denunzio were removed from the crumbling mausoleum. They were laid to rest there in the 1990s.

“It was awful. I couldn’t come here. Every time I would come here, I would be a wreck. I mean, it’s just a mess here and my parents didn’t deserve this,” Denise Kumor said in 2024.

Kumor and other family members watched, prayed, and cried as the remains were removed.
