On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Calgarians will take time to reflect on the men and women who gave their lives fighting for Canada’s freedom.
Remembrance Day is a statutory holiday in Alberta, and there are a number of ceremonies across the city for people to attend and pay their respects.
Field of Crosses
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Field of Crosses on Memorial Drive N.W., where more than 3,700 white crosses stand in honour of men and women from southern Alberta who died in the line of military duty.
Memorial Drive N.W. will be closed between Fourth Street N.E. and 10th Street N.W as of 9 a.m.
Parking next to the field is limited, and guests are encouraged to park south of the river in the Eau Claire area and walk from there.
Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium
Doors will open at 9 a.m. and the Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Jubilee Auditorium at 1415 14th Ave. N.W.
Free parking will be available.

The event will also be livestreamed on the museum’s Youtube page.
Studio Bell National Music Centre
The Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at 10:40 a.m. and will feature the Central Alberta Chamber Players.
Following the ceremony, there will be a screening of the documentary short Tattoo 67, which recounts the military performances from Canada’s centennial celebrations.
Veterans and active service members can also explore Studio Bell for free on Nov. 11.

WATCH | Beaded poppies honour Indigenous veterans:
These poppies supporting Indigenous veterans can take months to make
A Calgary studio has sold hundreds of the poppies in recent weeks. CBC’s Collin Gallant met one of the artists behind these symbols of sacrifice. (Note: a previous version of this story referred to National Aboriginal Veterans Day. That was incorrect. It is Indigenous Veterans Day.)
