Michael D Higgins departs Áras an Uachtaráin

Michael D Higgins will continue to receive garda protection and will be offered similar supports to former taoisigh after leaving office.

Mr Higgins finished his second term in office last night, leaving Áras an Uachtárain as a citizen rather than the first citizen for the first time in 14 years.
