Kings Norton Signalling Fault Triggers Widespread Rail Delays and Cancellations

A fault with the signalling system in the Kings Norton area is causing widespread disruption to services across the West Midlands rail network. Trains running between Birmingham New Street and Redditch, Bromsgrove, and Cheltenham Spa are being affected, with delays of up to 30 minutes, cancellations, and revised timetables expected.

CrossCountry services operating between Nottingham and Cardiff Central, as well as West Midlands Railway services between Birmingham New Street and Worcester Shrub Hill, Hereford, Bromsgrove and Lichfield Trent Valley, and Four Oaks to Redditch, are all impacted. Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.

CrossCountry has advised that some services may be diverted via Kidderminster and will no longer call at University station. Meanwhile, West Midlands Railway has urged passengers not to travel, as services between Birmingham New Street and Redditch or Bromsgrove are unable to run in either direction. The operator has confirmed that if passengers had driven to a station on an affected route, their rail ticket can still be used later in the day to travel back to collect their car.

Rail replacement services are in operation between Longbridge and Bromsgrove/Redditch, and between Bromsgrove and Worcester Foregate Street. Passengers are advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual and should allow extra time for their journeys.
