Leafs’ Matthews heads to locker room in second period vs. Bruns

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury and did not return.

The 28-year-old was hit by Bruins defenceman Nikita Zadorov prior to his exit midway through the second period.

The Leafs trailed 4-1 at the time of Matthews’ exit.

Matthews entered tonight’s game with nine goals and five assists in 16 games played this season.

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz (upper-body) also left the game and did not return.
