‘The time is now’: Dawson’s Creek star James Van Der Beek to auction off show memorabilia amid cancer battle

James Van Der Beek is letting go of precious mementos from his time on hit teen drama Dawson’s Creek.

The 48-year-old is selling off a selection of items ranging from props to iconic pieces of clothing from his decades-long acting career.

Van Der Beek, who is currently battling stage three colorectal cancer, is set to team up with an online auction site who will sell several cherished pieces from his personal collection.

The selection set to hit the auction block includes the outfit Van Der Beek wore in the pilot episode of Dawson’s, the necklace Dawson gifted Katie Holmes’ Joey for prom and the cleats the star wore for his role in Varsity Blues.

The items will be featured in Propstore’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which will be live from December 5-7.

Other items up for grabs through the prop reselling site include Jack Nicholson’s axe from The Shining, Rupert Grint’s hand-me-down robes from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harrison Ford‘s iconic hat, worn in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

News came of the star reselling show memorabilia amid his ongoing battle with stage three colorectal cancer.

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” the star said in an Instagram post.

“While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”

Last year he also announced he was selling memorobilia, at the time saying it was to help support his family throughout his cancer treatment.

“100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own 😇),” he wrote.

He posted the jersey on Instagram, along with the caption “excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #Varsity Blues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey – each one personally autographed by me.”

The actor revealed the news he was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer – also known as bowel cancer, colon cancer, or rectal cancer – in November last year, though he was diagnosed before that at age 46.
