‘It’s time’: Sad update in star’s cancer battle

James Van Der Beek has been forced to take a sad step amid his cancer battle that’s seen him fighting for his life over the last year.

Van Der Beek is currently undergoing cancer treatment, after first being diagnosed back in 2023.

The Dawson’s Creek star, who is battling stage three colorectal cancer, has teamed up with an online auction site, where he will sell several cherished pieces from his personal collection to help fund his health struggles.

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” the star said in an Instagram post.

“While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”

Last year he also announced he was selling memorabilia, at the time saying it was to help support his family throughout his cancer treatment.

“100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own),” he said.

Van Der Beek first publicly shared the news of his diagnosis last November.

“I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he said.

Van Der Beek, 48, added that his children had become his carers in recent months as be battles the disease.

Dawson’s Creek aired from 1998 to 2003 for six seasons and followed Dawson and his friends as they navigated life, love and loss throughout their teenage years.

Earlier this year, the actor was forced to miss out on a reunion for the show that featured all of his former co-stars.

“I can’t believe I’m not there. I can’t believe I don’t get to hug this beautiful cast in person. I just wanted to stand on that stage and thank every single one of you for being here tonight. “From the cast, to the crew and everyone who has donated time and been so generous. And especially every single one of you, the best fans in the world.”

Fans rushed to comment on the video, with numerous commenters sharing their heartbreak over Van Der Beek’s appearance.

“He looks so frail, it’s hard to watch,” remarked one concerned fan, with another echoing the sentiment, saying, “He’s gotten so thin. Is it the chemo?”

“I pray this beautiful soul can beat this cancer; it truly breaks my heart for his beautiful family,” remarked another.
