Nov. 12 (UPI) — Mario and his friends head to space in the first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) check in on Bowser (Jack Black), who remains tiny after eating a Mini Mushroom from the first film in the clip released during a Nintendo Direct presentation Wednesday.
After shooting stars appear across the sky over Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and their crew then enter space, where they encounter a water planet and a desert planet with upside down pyramids.
Mario and Luigi navigate the desert planet with motorcycles before the trailer introduces Bowser’s son Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie), who is attempting to save his dad and Rosalina, (Brie Larson) who takes down a giant robot.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, from returning directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, comes to theaters in April 2026. The movie is based on the Super Mario Galaxy video game, first released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007.
Nintendo recently re-released Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch.
Nintendo also shared a first poster for the movie featuring Mario and Princess Peach observing the shooting stars.
