Bartzokas: «Zalgiris is a tough team to beat»

Olympiacos faces Zalgiris in Round 10 of the EuroLeague, and coach Giorgos Bartzokas spoke during Media Day ahead of the clash with the current league leaders.
The Olympiacos coach first addressed the inclusion of Keenan Evans in the 12-man roster and also noted that Frank Ntilikina will miss Wednesday’s game (12/11, 21:15).
“At first, I didn’t intend to use him. I thought the most reasonable plan was for him to play on Sunday against Promitheas and then in the EuroLeague next week. Unfortunately for us, Ntilikina has an issue with his hamstring, which is why he didn’t play much in our last league game. He’s out for tomorrow, so Evans will be in the 12-man squad. Whether he’ll play or not depends on how the game goes.
I told you, I didn’t plan to include him, but due to necessity, he will be there. He’s happy and excited, of course, but it’s not like we just pressed a button; he still needs to progress: how he plays, how he trains, how he avoids bad habits. We’re optimistic, he’s worked hard, and he’s a full member of the team.”
Bartzokas then commented on Zalgiris’ impressive start to the season: “The standings show exactly what they are. First of all, they have the best defense in the league, allowing around 76 points per game. They play with great energy and fight hard; they foul, they play physically. They have clear roles and the best +/- in the EuroLeague. They’ve achieved big wins because of how they play.
They have two point guards – I think Goss might be out, but I’m not sure – and the rest are basically forwards, but they have great chemistry and deserve credit. In general, they’re a very tough team, and if you’re not ready for a physical battle, you’ll pay for it.
Expect a game full of contact and intensity. That’s how Zalgiris forces you to play. If you don’t match that, you’ll have a problem.”
When asked about the rise of former Olympiacos player Moses Wright, Bartzokas replied: “Yes, 100%. He’s very talented offensively. If he stays on the floor for 15–25 minutes, he’ll score 15 points without you even noticing. He has great balance in how he executes. We’re all happy with his development.
He’s the starting center there, something he couldn’t find with us. Last year he had some health issues that held him back. We all like him and have a great relationship with him, and we’re happy to see him playing well in a good environment.”
Tyler Dorsey also shared his thoughts ahead of the matchup: “They’re playing really well so far, a dangerous team. We have to be ready for a tough battle and a high-level game. We must be prepared mentally and physically to bring the win home. It’s a big game, and we need this win to start the double-week strong.”
Dorsey also commented on Keenan Evans’ return: “Evans brings a different level at the point guard position. We hope he keeps his momentum; obviously, it was an amazing debut for him. He’s a dynamic player, a great scorer, and will be an important piece for us. As long as he stays healthy, he’ll be a big part of our team.”
