Krispy Kreme opens its doors in Minnesota for the first time in almost 20 years

It means Minnesota will have a Krispy Kreme shop for the first time in nearly two decades.
Wednesday marks the welcome return of an iconic treat to Minnesota as Krispy Kreme has opened a new location in Fridley.
The grand opening on Wednesday at the corner of University and 57th Avenues was a welcome return for many, such as Michael and Issie Kaplin. The father-daughter duo said they had been camped out in the parking lot since 1 a.m. to be one of the first to try a doughnut once the “hot light” was turned on.
“We’ve been watching, waiting for Krispy Kreme to open up,” Michael told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. “We go in California, we’ve been in Vegas, we’ve been in Iowa and we were excited when it was coming here.”
The Kaplins were just two of the many people who showed up on Wednesday, as lines were forming throughout the morning.
On their second day of operation, Krispy Kreme announced it plans to mark “World Kindness Day” by offering anyone who buys a dozen regular-priced donuts a dozen free glazed doughnuts.
The company closed the doors of its final shop in Minnesota in 2008.
The new location will be open seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
