A thrilled Sainsbury’s shopper says she felt like she’d “won the lottery” after her online grocery delivery arrived earlier this week. While online food shopping can often lead to disappointment due to unavailable items or unwanted substitute products, occasionally, customers hit the jackpot.

This proved true for one woman who posted on Reddit following her delivery to share her fortunate discovery. “Feel like a lottery winner this morning,” she wrote.

“Ordered a leg of lamb from Sainsbury’s and got a bonus leg free,” she added, accompanied by a photograph of the meat in her kitchen. The fresh whole legs – costing £14.84 and £18.24 for Nectar card holders, represented an even better deal given they would typically cost non-card holders a substantial £29.67 and £36.49.

According to Sainsburys’ website, British or New Zealand whole legs of lamb (approximately 2.3kg) can be purchased at the reduced price for a limited period only.

Responding to the post, one Reddit user joked: “Don’t let Sainsbury’s try to take back the extra one if they find out. They don’t have a leg to stand on.”

Another person recalled: “I had something like that happen, I ordered one T9940 tape and I received two and I didn’t order two, just one which is incredibly lucky as those are pretty expensive.”

A third recounted their shopping experience: “I got a text from Asda about two weeks ago to say my £80 shop had been cancelled and I wouldn’t receive my delivery… it had already been delivered, got it all the day before I got this text. Winning.”

Whilst a fourth Reddit user exclaimed: “Winning! This is like the time I was refunded my whole Tesco order twice!

“It was originally just shy of £200. I had submitted a refund request for a damaged case of eggs. Of course I kept quiet about it.”

Elsewhere, one person speculated: “I like to think this is an employee ‘sticking it to the man’ and putting an extra one in.

“There’s been countless reports of Amazon parcels turning up with higher capacity hard drives and more expensive things than what was ordered. But £14/£18 is insane for meat (and that’s Nectar prices! ).”

Meanwhile, those planning their festive grocery shopping online should note that Sainsbury’s Christmas delivery slots are now available for booking.

Sainsbury’s opened its Christmas delivery slots on October 23, allowing customers to schedule food deliveries for any date between December 18 and 24.

Customers can modify their orders until 11pm on the evening before their scheduled delivery or collection time.
