More rain due as Met Éireann issues multiple status orange and yellow warnings

It looks like there will be no let-up in the recent rain as Met Éireann has issued one status orange and three status yellow weather warnings for the coming days.

A status orange rain warning will impact Dublin, Wexford, and Wicklow on Friday, with the forecaster warning of “significant rainfall accumulations, especially on high ground and exposed areas”.

The warning will be in place from 2pm on Friday until 11am on Saturday, and Met Éireann is warning that significant flooding is possible as well as hazardous travelling conditions.

The same three counties, as well as Louth, will be under a status yellow wind warning from 12pm on Friday until 4am on Saturday. It will see “strong and gusty northeasterly winds” impact the four counties.

The possible impacts include difficult travelling conditions and wind related debris.

Meanwhile, a status yellow rain warning — for Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford — will be in place from 9am on Friday until 9am on Saturday.

A second status yellow rain warning will be in place for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Meath, Wexford, and Wicklow and will come into effect at 11am on Friday. It will remain in place for 24 hours.

Met Éireann said that in relation to both warnings, there will be “heavy and persistent rain falling on saturated ground”. Possible impacts include flooding, difficult travelling conditions, and poor visibility.

More generally, the weather on Thursday will see some heavy showers and sunny spells, while temperatures will reach highs of 15C. Tonight will be mainly cloudy with scattered showers, some of which will be heavy.

It will be wet and windy across much of the country on Friday, with widespread rain or drizzle.

“The rain will be heavy at times, particularly in the south and east where localised flooding is possible,” said Met Éireann.

It will be “dry with clear spells” in Ulster and north Connacht on Friday night, but cloudy and wet across other areas.

Looking at the weekend, northern areas are likely “to see the driest and brightest weather on Saturday, with cloud and patchy rain or drizzle across the rest of the country”.

Saturday night will be cloudy with “isolated light rain or drizzle across the southern half of the country, but dry with clear spells further north,” Met Éireann said.

Sunday, meanwhile, will be “mainly dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells” while at night it will be “mostly dry with clear spells”.
