EB Games Issues Voluntary Recall for Pre-Owned PlayStation and Xbox Consoles Due to Electrical Testing Concerns

EB Games has announced a voluntary recall affecting pre-owned PlayStation and Xbox consoles sold between September 1, 2024, and October 30, 2025. This measure has been initiated due to a shortfall in the test and tag process, leaving some consoles potentially untested for electrical safety prior to their sale. The recall encompasses pre-owned models including PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X|S.

In light of this development, EB Games is urging affected customers to take immediate action. Those who qualify for the recall should stop using their consoles right away and return both the console and its power cord to the nearest EB Games store.

Starting Saturday, November 1, customers have several options regarding the return process. The first option allows customers to return their console and power cord in-store to undergo free electrical testing. This procedure involves sending the console to the Store Support Centre for evaluation, after which it will be tagged for safety and returned to the customer’s local store for collection. Notably, this option enables customers to retain their saved games and settings.

Alternatively, customers may opt for a replacement of their current console and power cord or request an exchange for a different model. Newly tested replacement units are anticipated to be available starting Tuesday, November 11.

For customers who prefer not to retest, replace, or exchange their console, EB Games will offer a refund to the original payment method or an EB Games gift card. To complete this process, customers must return the console along with any accompanying accessories such as HDMI cables, controllers, and other attachments.
