Manchester United have reportedly been alerted to the potential availability of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi. The attacker is experiencing a challenging period at Dortmund and appears unsettled ahead of the January transfer window.

United invested more than £200million on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha during the summer transfer window. The signings have transformed their attack, albeit the former has struggled to find his feet in Manchester.

United are continuing to monitor potential new additions and Adeyemi’s circumstances at Dortmund have reportedly attracted their interest. The 23-year-old has spent three years at Dortmund but reports in Germany indicate tensions are building.

Adeyemi has registered three goals and three assists across 14 appearances this season but has recently clashed with boss Niko Kovac. He hurled a bottle towards the bench following his substitution last month during a 1-0 victory over Koln, prompting a public rebuke for his conduct from Kovac.

“I think that’s unnecessary,” the Dortmund manager said. “It’s okay that he can be angry sometimes, but that’s unnecessary, he’s an adult,” he said.

Kovac appeared irritated with his display in the 1-1 draw with Hamburg at the weekend and matters have reportedly reached breaking point.

German publication Bild reports that discussions are ‘in full swing’ regarding Adeyemi’s future at the club. Whilst his current contract runs until June 2027, his new representative, Jorge Mendes, is pushing for a new deal that would feature a £70million release clause.

Following Dortmund’s 4-1 Champions League loss to Manchester City, Kovac attempted to highlight positives from Adeyemi’s appearance at the Etihad Stadium. “I want to keep it general: the passing quality that City showed compared to us was better,” he said.

“Karim had a few situations, but he didn’t succeed. He lacked precision and accuracy. But I am satisfied that he earned the chance in the first place.”
