Oakland: Man wounded in shooting on Laney College campus

OAKLAND — A man believed to be in his late 50s was shot and wounded on the Laney College campus on Thursday, authorities said.

The shooting happened at around 11:53 a.m. inside the campus’ Field House, an athletic facility near the football and baseball fields.

The condition of the man shot was not immediately available, nor was his connection to the community college known.

Numerous Oakland police officers were on the campus as of 12:30 p.m., near Fifth Avenue and East Eighth Street.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been announced.

It is the second shooting on a school campus in Oakland over the past 24 hours. On Wednesday, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the torso inside a bathroom at Skyline High School in the Oakland hills. Police arrested two male suspects — a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old — and recovered two semi-automatic firearms.
