Red Dead Redemption Confirmed For Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, And Mobile – Free Upgrade And Enhancements Detailed

Rockstar’s 2010 game Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2, along with iOS and Android, the developer has confirmed following initial listings and reports.

“Experience these epic Western adventures on the latest mobile devices and current generation consoles–with free upgrades, the ability to carry over game progress, and a number of enhancements,” Rockstar said.

The new versions launch on December 2, and the iOS and Android editions are coming via Netflix Games. The game will also include the popular Undead Nightmare mode featuring zombies.

Updates and enhancements

Rockstar is promising a “smooth 60 frames per second experience” on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with “enhanced image quality, HDR support, and resolutions up to 4K.” For Switch 2, Rockstar said it has “taken full advantage of” the console’s power to support DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and “the same fluid 60 frames per second gameplay at high resolution.”

Free upgrades

People who already own Red Dead Redemption on PS4, Switch, or on Xbox One via backwards compatibility can get a free digital upgrade for the new version. “Anyone who owns the PS4 version can utilize previous PS4 save data to pick up where they left off, and Switch 2 players can continue with their previous save data from the previous Nintendo Switch console,” Rockstar said.

Who developed the new versions?

Developers Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games developed the new versions of Red Dead Redemption, “in collaboration” with Rockstar Games.

Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS Plus

What’s more, Rockstar announced that Red Dead Redemption’s new version will be added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on December 2. Additionally, the new version will be added to the GTA+ subscription service that day.

What about the rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 ports?

There are also ongoing rumors of Red Dead Redemption II coming to Switch 2 and getting updated versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Red Dead Redemption came to the Switch in 2023 and PC in 2024, some 13 and 14 years after the game originally debuted on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. The follow-up–which is a prequel to the events of the first game–launched in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One and came to PC in 2019.

The rumored RDR2 ports for Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S are said to be in the works for a 2025 release, while a GTA 4 remaster could come out this year as well.

As for Rockstar’s biggest upcoming release, GTA 6 has been delayed yet again and is now set for release in November 2026.
