It’s been a banner start to the NFL season for the New England Patriots, who improved to 8-2 on Sunday with a big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, tying the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos for the league’s best record. Two familiar names from Montgomery County have been right in the middle of it… Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins.
In Sunday’s victory, Hollins topped 100 receiving yards, continuing what’s become one of the most productive stretches of his NFL career. Diggs, meanwhile, caught a touchdown pass and came up clutch on special teams, recovering the onside kick that sealed the win for New England.
Together, the pair has been a key part of helping second-year quarterback Drake Maye take a major leap forward under new head coach Mike Vrabel. Diggs’ veteran leadership and route precision have made him a reliable target in big moments, while Hollins’ size and physicality have turned him into a dangerous downfield threat. The chemistry they’ve developed with Maye has transformed the Patriots’ offense into one of the most efficient in the league’s first half.
Both wideouts share deep roots in Montgomery County. Stefon Diggs is a Gaithersburg natives and starred at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, where he became one of the nation’s top recruits before heading to the University of Maryland and eventually the NFL. Mack Hollins, who grew up in Rockville and attended Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School, was a standout special teams player and receiver at the University of North Carolina before carving out a respected pro career built on toughness and versatility.
Now teammates in Foxborough, the two MoCo natives have helped fuel one of the NFL’s best storylines of the season, a resurgent Patriots team finding its rhythm behind a young quarterback and a pair of veteran receivers who’ve brought local pride and leadership to New England’s locker room.
