‘After The Hunt’ Duo Luca Guadagnino & Julia Roberts Set For Gotham Awards’ Visionary Tribute

After the Hunt director Luca Guadagnino and star Julia Roberts have been tapped to receive the 2025 Gotham Awards Visionary Tribute next month at the 35th annual Gotham Film Awards.

The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, is a psychological thriller written by Nora Garrett that stars Roberts as a college professor who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads. When a star student (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield), the professor is forced to navigate complex moral territory while a dark secret from her own past threatens to come into the light. Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny also star.

The Visionary Tribute recognizes “groundbreaking collaborations that push the boundaries of storytelling in film,” organizer the Gotham Film & Media Institute said. Last year, James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet received the honor for A Complete Unknown.

“The Gotham community has long cherished Luca Guadagnino’s emotionally expressive storytelling, and in After the Hunt, Julia Roberts delivers a luminous, monumental performance that deepens an already extraordinary career — guided by his singular direction behind one of the year’s most talked-about and provocative films,” said Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of organizer the Gotham Film & Media Institute. “Their partnership speaks to the power of collaboration at its highest level.”

Guadagnino, who won the Best Feature Gotham Award for Call Me By Your Name, and Roberts round out a list of 2025 Gotham honorees that includes Song Sung Blue stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson (Musical Tribute), Jay Kelly director Noah Baumbach (Director Tribute), the cast of Sinners (Ensemble Tribute), Hedda star Tessa Thompson (Spotlight Tribute), Frankenstein‘s Guillermo del Toro, Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac (Vanguard Tribute), and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere‘s Jeremy Allen White and Scott Cooper (Cultural Icon Tribute).

The ceremony is December 1 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
