Game 18 Hub: Ottawa Senators vs Boston Bruins

It’s Hockey Fights Cancer night in Ottawa, adding some extra weight to a matchup that already had plenty.

The Senators have practically mastered the art of the moral victory this November, collecting loser points like they’re going out of style with three overtime losses in just five games. It hasn’t been pretty, but at this point, I’ll take it over the traditional November collapse.

Meanwhile, the Boston Bruins roll into town riding a seven-game winning streak, looking every bit the early-season playoff contender no one thought they would be. The season series sits knotted at 1-1-0, setting up tonight as a potentially momentum-shifting showdown with second place in the Atlantic on the line.

The real obstacle? Ottawa’s power play has been a black hole of offensive production, currently mired in a 19-attempt drought. Combine that with the team’s recent struggle to piece together a full 60-minute effort – and the absence of Thomas Chabot after his injury against the Stars – and the margin for error is razor thin.

Still, there’s reason for optimism at the Canadian Tire Centre. The Sens have won all three home games against Boston in 2025 and boast a solid 6-2-2 record in their last 10 home matchups with the Bruins. They also caught a break earlier this week, dodging being the victims of yet another milestone when David Pastrňák chose to pot his 400th career goal against Toronto on Tuesday. Small mercies for a team that always seems magnetically attracted to appearing in opposition highlight reels.

Plus, fresh off signing a shiny four-year, $7.5 million extension, Shane Pinto has every reason to celebrate with a performance worthy of that new pay grade.

With newly minted Hall of Famer Zdeno Chára’s legacy freshly cemented, tonight’s winner earns some very serious and extremely official bragging rights as the superior team in Big Z’s storied career. So, can the Sens turn their affinity for loser points into a full two, or will Boston keep rolling and extend their run to eight?
