Jakub Dobes finally opens up about his very emotional reaction following the Canadiens’ loss to the New Jersey Devils last Thursday.

A week ago, the scene touched everyone.

An emotional goaltender, but mentally strong

I’m really glad to see that the young Czech goalie also wanted to clarify things about his mindset.

Habs Jakub Dobes addressing the media for the first time since he was emotional postgame in NJ:

“I think I was fine on the plane. Going back to that, I want to close it – you guys don’t need to worry about me at all just some games mean more to someone than others…”

– Dobes via Priyanta Emrith

“Every game I play, I want to win really badly for the team, for the fans, for myself. Some games are more meaningful and that one was really meaningful to me. Unfortunately, we lost that one.”

– Dobes via Chris G

I have to say, it’s great to hear that.

You can tell the young goaltender wants to move forward – and rightly so!

To me, that’s a great sign of maturity. He’s understood that in hockey, you sometimes have to take a hit before you can bounce back stronger.

His coach, Martin St-Louis, often says it: a goalie’s development comes with ups and downs.

And honestly, I think Dobes is truly living that right now.

You can feel he wants to prove something – not necessarily to everyone else, but first and foremost to himself – and that’s exactly how it should be!

This will be a big test for the young goalie following the heavy defeat Monty suffered yesterday.
