Ultimate Guide: Everything you need to know for South Africa’s tour of India

India’s Test series against the World Test Championship winners in South Africa is underway with the first Test starting at Eden Gardens on Friday 14 November at 3pm AEDT.
It has been six years since the Proteas last toured India in the longest format, and they return for the two-Test series with the Freedom Trophy in their possession, having drawn and won the last two series at home.
The series will no doubt be a major challenge for Temba Bavuma’s side, and the South African skipper said before the series opener that “not much” would be better than winning the WTC final at Lords against Australia earlier this year, but “second to that would be winning in India.”

“Whenever we go into a series, there’s a lot more of an expectation for us as a team to uphold the world champion status,” Bavuma said.
“From a confidence point of view, it’s a case of us kind of walking proudly with that badge, being known as the champions.
“We have a lovely opportunity now coming up against India in their own conditions. It’s a great opportunity for us to kind of stamp ourselves with that label.”
